The Capital City Pilots project, led by Innovate Edmonton in partnership with the City of Edmonton, lets entrepreneurs with innovative solutions pilot their products on city-owned assets to benefit the community, create jobs, and achieve sustainability. 

Your Opportunity:

  • Reporting to the Director, Strategic & Operational Growth, the Head of Capital City Pilots will work with the City of Edmonton to identify top urban challenges while promoting the Capital City Pilots program within City departments. They will ensure that project goals are met, outline and develop a complete project plan, be accountable for all reporting, and work directly with Innovate Edmonton’s senior management team to ensure the program meets, or surpasses, all requirements.  The successful candidate is a seasoned leader of multi-stakeholder programs and is a passionate city-builder.

Your Key Accountabilities:

  • Promotes an equitable, diverse, and inclusive work environment, and contributes to Innovate Edmonton’s ongoing pursuit of Reconciliation.
  • Operates as the lead point of contact for any and all matters specific to Capital City Pilots. 
  • Creates opportunity for City Administration to reframe experimental procurement with a focus on “challenge-based” sourcing.
  • Uses Innovate Edmonton’s technology platform and City Administration to engage local entrepreneurs, startups, and scale ups, to support the City of Edmonton as a flagship client.
  • Provides local companies with support for best-in-class case studies, and models of excellence, for pitching and securing future international clients.
  • Develops frameworks and selection criteria and guides overall engagement approach for the Capital City Pilots program. 
  • Boosts innovation and innovative solutions within both City Administration, Council, Facilities and City owned assets as well as the Public Realm.
  • Accomplishes project objectives by managing a team, and by planning and evaluating project activities.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

Your Credentials:

  • Post-secondary education (degree, diploma, certificate) in related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience in a managerial role.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with procurement and sustainability leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal needs, infrastructure, and planning.
  • Experience working with different levels of government.
  • Excels in a start-up environment with flat organizational structure and strong team collaboration. 
  • Outstanding communicator and team leader with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Competency in digital applications.
  • Ability to maintain high-level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Innovator by nature.
