ANNOUNCEMENT

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, July 21, 2022 – We are excited to announce that the Government of Alberta will be providing $1.8 million in funding over three years for the Capital City Pilots project. This funding builds on previous investments made by other key project partners, including the City of Edmonton and Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan).

“Innovation is the key ingredient to finding creative solutions for local and global challenges. By harnessing the ingenuity of local innovators, we are growing our tech sector and keeping Alberta in the driver’s seat when finding and creating solutions. We’re looking ahead, planning for the future and ensuring we are well-positioned to keep good-paying jobs and diversified industries right here in our province.”

Doug Schweitzer, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation

Through this generous funding and in collaboration with the City of Edmonton, Capital City Pilots will open the doors for startups and scaleups to tackle municipal challenges and transform our neighbourhoods with catapulting innovation into the public realm and onto the global stage.

Catherine Warren, Innovate Edmonton CEO

The Capital City Pilots project is in collaboration with the City of Edmonton and helps local entrepreneurs pilot their products on City-owned assets, providing companies with the best-in-class case studies and models of excellence that will support future commercialization. Capital City Pilots will include the creation of a new Innovation Lab at Innovate Edmonton – a centralized space where innovators and City of Edmonton administration can find innovative, technology-driven solutions to challenges facing cities, such as sustainability, neighbourhood renewal and mobility.

We’re pleased to announce two new Innovate Edmonton team members to lead Capital City Pilots. Abbie Stein-MacLean, Head of Capital City Pilots, and Mustafa Ali, Founder Liaison & Tech Lead. We’re also looking to hire a Community Engagement Facilitator. The application deadline for the position is Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
